Contrary to popular belief, the Runes are not an ancient Nordic alphabet but a composite of Bronze Age symbols, the German runic alphabet and Greek and Latin letters which were widely used on European monuments, ships and artefacts to invoke the protection of the Gods.  The symbols are ideographic, which means that each represents a significant idea or object.  For example, the symbol (Uruz) represents both the sound U and the horned cattle known as auroch, which equates with the qualities of endurance, stubbornness and strength. The pattern in which the stones fall is also significant.  If they form a group it means that they are to be looked at together, but if they are scattered it suggests that there are several issues to be considered.
